ESHotel sur Russell Square, Londres

Le niveau d’anglais figure parmi les 3 critères de recrutement des jeunes diplômés en hôtellerie. Or, le niveau d’anglais en BTS ne progresse pas, les étudiants ont du mal à atteindre un niveau professionnel : être capable de négocier en anglais, de manager une équipe ou d’animer une réunion de reporting financier par exemple. ESHotel a créé la Majeure de Management à Londres en 2003, les étudiants peuvent partir un an à la suite du BTS Hôtellerie Restauration ou d’un bac+3 en gestion. Le programme de management hôtelier y est enseigné entièrement en anglais…

“Trouver un logement n’a pas été très difficile, en effet il y a un site internet très pratique www.gumtree.com où toutes les annonces de collocations sont répertoriées. J’ai donc trouvé une chambre à une petite heure de l’école. Une camarade de classe, Albane m’a même rejoint après 2 semaines, elle a la chambre d’à côté! Les loyers sont très corrects. Certains cours sont extrêmement intéressants, Constance Konold qui enseigne les RH et la communication est tout simplement formidable. Il y a une bonne ambiance et une forte interactivité pendant ses cours. Le cours de strategy est assez difficile mais hyper intéressant également. Le prof a vraiment envie de nous voir évoluer…”

I opted to study in London with a French school, Eshotel. Since I want to travel and work in management, speaking fluently English is essential. Our study program is very interesting, adapted to our future careers. It helps me to better understand the manager’s position.”

“Before starting my master’s degree at Eshotel in London , I passed my BTS (two years after A levels) in Toulouse , France. My first difficulty when I arrived in London was to find accommodations. I was looking for a room to share in a share house, but not too far from school, so that’s why it was a problem because Eshotel is situated in Russell Square , right in the centre of London . I finally found a share house in King’s Cross, which is very well situated (Zone 1, Piccadilly line) thanks to an agency. My second difficulty was finding a job. Indeed, I need money to finance my studies, so I work in a bar-restaurant-club, which is in Berkley Square (Green Park station). So far I have worked every Friday and Saturday nights in the cloakroom. I have had an interview with the boss and hope to work for him in the restaurant. Every course is in English and at the end of the day I am tired trying to understand every teacher. It is difficult for foreigners, but I am positive and I think after a month it will be easier. Concerning the program, I find it very interesting and I am really impatient to study more. There is also a lot of homework that you have to do…”

CONSTANCE G. KONOLD holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Notre Dame (USA). She has taught Strategic Human Resource Management and Managerial Communications in the Eshotel Master of Hospitality Management program since its inception in 2005. Recognizing the increasing potential of our bilingual Eshotel students, she conceived and is now running a 15-credit master practicum in Project Management. This year’s business projects revolve around “green” themes in hospitality in honor of the Charles Darwin Bicentennial in 2009 and will be presented in front of a professional and academic jury. This innovation has afforded the students challenging practice in leadership, team-building, creativity, research and innovation.

Coach, trainer, consultant in communications and HRM, with her own network of other internationally-minded communicators known as “The Satellite Crew”, Constance is a frequent bilingual lecturer on Executive Coaching as a Management Tool, Intercultural Management and Career Development. She moderates major conferences internationally. She is also a press-carded freelance journalist.

Deeply committed to on-going education, she has cooperated on the development of customized executive education projects in France (notably for hospitality programs such as Inter-Continental’s ADP and Accor’s “Vivier” programs) and Cameroon. She is also a quality auditor for 5-star hotels in Europe and Asia.

Inteview with Benoît Maton, Runner Up of the First Hyatt Student Prize, by Constance Konold

Le jury réuni par le groupe Hyatt a donné son avis sur les étudiants sélectionnés par 8 école supérieures d’hôtellerie : ESHotel est 3ème, après l’IMHI et l’Institut Paul Bocuse. L’avis d’un jury composé de personnalités non hôtelières est d’autant plus important que c’est un avis désintéressé, un avis différend de celui d’un recruteur. Cependant, Michel Jauslin a invité les lauréats à rejoindre le groupe “toutes les portes vous seront ouvertes” !

Présentation du concours
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts a récompensé le 18 décembre les meilleurs des étudiants en Management Hôtelier et Touristique lors du premier « The Hyatt Student Prize ». « Notre objectif est de récompenser l’étudiant le plus talentueux de notre industrie en lui offrant la possibilité de rencontrer les dirigeants du siège du groupe Hyatt, ceci afin de lui faire découvrir le style de Management que nous mettons en pratique », expliquait Michel Jauslin, vice-président régional. Le jury a reçu chaque candidat sélectionné par son école. Un candidat par école, le meilleur. Les écoles représentées : ESHotel Paris, ESTHUA, Ecole Internationale Supérieure de Savignac, Ecole Supérieure de Management en Hôtellerie et Restauration, Essec-IMHI, Institut Paul Bocuse, Institut Vatel et La Rochelle Business School of Tourism.

ESHotel avait sélectionné son “champion”, Benoît Maton, il est arrivé 3ème et gagne un diner pour deux et une nuit au Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme. Benoît a obtenu le BTS Hôtellerie Restauration au Lycée Fred Scamaroni en Corse, il est ensuite parti à ESHotel Londres en M1, il est actuellement en M2 à ESHotel Paris. Toutes nos félicitations à Benoît, et à l’année prochaine pour la 2ème édition.
