Le Rayonnement de la France (projets M2)

For the second year, Eshotel’s Master of Hospitality students will realize real-life-simulation group projects, to be judged by a jury composed of academics and hospitality professionals.

This year’s project themes will revolve around “Le Rayonnement de la France à travers le monde” – loosely translated as France’s influence on hospitality around the world.

Eshotel believes in offering its students solid hands-on experience as well as academic theory in the field of hospitality. Second year Master students, who have already written a thesis in the first year of their 2-year program, benefit exponentially from participating in this intensive project-management course. By collaborating in small groups of no more than five students per project, they learn team building, leadership, negotiating, and interpersonal and professional communication in an “on-the-job” situation.

The students are accompanied by Professor Constance Konold who leads the practicum on Project Management. She also coaches the teams and all participants individually in team dynamics, leadership, and, above all, “followership” to help the students integrate seamlessly the teams they encounter in their internships.

The five projects this year involve integrating the principles of best-practice finance, marketing, human resources and strategy while exploring France’s contributions – past, present and future – to enhancing world hospitality standards.

team-11) The Wine Bar in China Project: The Wine Bar in China Project will feature market-supported approaches to educating the young Chinese business culture to fine French wines through total sensual immersion in French culture. This project involves extensive market research and intercultural knowledge of consumer needs and taste in China as well as exploring the logistical and economic realities of exporting French products as well as the types of organizations available to facilitate international projects.

team-22) The Palace Hotel Project: This team’s mission is to plan, create and develop a voluntary hotel chain with typical French Palace standards. To implement this project, they will perform extensive first-hand research, visiting many palace hotels to better understand the notion of “luxury”, its atmosphere and its exigencies. They will then explore world luxury brands in order to determine the vision and positioning of “French Palace Standards”.

team-33) The Restaurant and Boutique Project: After imagining an international French gastronomic restaurant and boutique chain with a one-star model and French “art de la table” style, this team will conduct international research and a feasibility study to find the best international location for their product. The team will then establish an implementation plan for the first unit in the country of their choice.

team-4>4) The Château Hotel Development Project: This team’s goal is to plan and develop a turnkey project to transform an existing château B&B into a successful Relais-et-Château standard hotel-restaurant, applying the best French hospitality know-how and quality standards within a realistic budget. This project involves soliciting and obtaining the confidence and active collaboration of a property owner, developing a beneficial work relationship around the owner’s goals, and submitting a solid, realistic proposal that the property owner is free to implement when the project is complete.

team-55) The Regional Hotel Development Project: The project plan is to leverage a 4-star hotel upgrade on an existing hotel in the Auvergne Region by promoting local know-how and culture, thus developing The French Touch “à l’Auvergnate”. This project requires interfacing effectively with the property owner, who was identified by the team. It will involve extensive research of regional attractions as well as creativity in developing both the internal and external appeal of the property.

All projects will be developed as formal business plans that, theoretically, our students could present to bankers, promoters or private investors at the close of the school year should some of these projects be deemed worthy of implementation.
